Vehicle recalls can be a bit unsettling, but understanding what to do can make things much easier. At Boyd’s OBX Chevrolet, we’re here to help you through every step of the process and ensure your vehicle stays safe and reliable. We’ll walk you through what to do when you get a recall notice and explain what to expect along the way. We’re committed to making this as smooth and stress-free as possible for you.
What is a Vehicle Recall?
A vehicle recall is issued by the manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) when a safety defect or non-compliance with safety standards is identified in a vehicle or its equipment. Recalls are initiated to correct the issue, ensuring that the vehicle remains safe for use.
How to Know if Your Vehicle is Affected
- Check for Recall Notices
- If your vehicle is subject to a recall, you may receive a recall notice by mail from the manufacturer. This notice will include details about the recall and instructions on how to proceed.
- Visit the Manufacturer’s Website
- Most manufacturers have online tools where you can check if your vehicle is affected by a recall. You’ll need your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), which can usually be found on your dashboard or inside the driver’s door frame.
- Check the NHTSA Website
- The NHTSA provides a free online recall database where you can enter your VIN to see if there are any active recalls on your vehicle.
Steps to Take When You Receive a Recall Notice
- Read the Recall Notice Carefully
- Review the details of the recall notice to understand what the issue is, how it affects your vehicle, and the steps the manufacturer will take to address it.
- Contact Your Dealership
- Reach out to Boyd’s OBX Chevrolet to schedule an appointment for the necessary repairs or inspections. Our certified technicians will handle the recall work to ensure it’s done correctly and efficiently.
- Keep Your Records
- Maintain records of the recall work performed on your vehicle, including any communications with the manufacturer or dealership. This documentation can be useful for future reference or if any issues arise.
- Follow Up if Necessary
- If you experience any issues related to the recall work or have further questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re here to ensure that your vehicle is safe and that all recall-related concerns are addressed.
What to Expect During the Recall Process
- Inspection and Repair
- When you bring your vehicle in for a recall repair, our technicians will inspect and fix the issue as outlined in the recall notice. Repairs are typically done at no cost to you, as manufacturers cover the expenses for recall-related work.
- Duration of the Repair
- The time required to complete the repair will depend on the nature of the recall and the availability of parts. We will provide you with an estimated completion time and keep you informed throughout the process.
- Quality Assurance
- After the repair is completed, we’ll ensure that your vehicle meets all safety standards and functions as intended. You can drive away knowing that your vehicle has been thoroughly inspected and repaired.
- Follow-Up Communication
- In some cases, you may receive follow-up communication from the manufacturer or dealership to confirm that the recall work was completed and to ensure that there are no further issues.
Why Addressing Recalls is Important
- Safety
- The primary reason for a recall is to address safety defects that could pose a risk to you and others on the road. Promptly addressing recalls ensures that your vehicle remains safe and reliable.
- Compliance
- Handling recalls promptly helps you comply with vehicle safety standards and avoid potential legal or insurance issues.
- Peace of Mind
- Taking care of recalls ensures that your vehicle is in good working condition, giving you peace of mind and confidence in its safety.

When buying a used car, one of the most essential steps is understanding the vehicle history report. This document offers a comprehensive overview of a car’s past, providing valuable insights that can help you make an informed decision and avoid potential pitfalls. At Boyd’s OBX Chevrolet, we believe that being well-informed is key to a successful purchase, so let’s explore what a vehicle history report reveals and why it’s so important.
What is a Vehicle History Report?
A vehicle history report is a comprehensive document that details a car’s past. It is generated by compiling data from various sources, including the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), insurance companies, repair shops, and more.
What Information Does a Vehicle History Report Include?
- Title Information
- Title Status: The report shows whether the car has a clean title or if it has been branded with terms like “salvage,” “rebuilt,” or “flood.” These brands can significantly affect the car’s value and safety.
- Title History: Any changes in the car’s title status over time, such as changes of ownership or title issues, will be documented.
- Accident History
- Reported Accidents: The report will list any accidents that have been reported. It’s important to understand the extent of these accidents and any repairs that were made.
- Damage Severity: The report may include details on the severity of the damage, helping you assess whether the car is structurally sound.
- Odometer Readings
- Mileage Accuracy: The history report will show recorded odometer readings to help you verify that the mileage is accurate and hasn’t been tampered with.
- Service and Maintenance Records
- Routine Maintenance: This includes regular services like oil changes and tire rotations. Regular maintenance can indicate that the car has been well cared for.
- Major Repairs: Information about any major repairs or replacements, such as engine or transmission work, is also included.
- Ownership History
- Previous Owners: The report will list the number of previous owners and may provide information on the length of time each owner had the vehicle.
- Usage Types: It might also indicate if the car was used for personal, rental, or fleet purposes.
- Recalls
- Recall Information: The report will identify any outstanding recalls on the vehicle, allowing you to address them with the current owner or dealer.
- Theft Reports
- Stolen Status: If the vehicle was reported as stolen but later recovered, this information will be listed.
Why Vehicle History Reports Matter
- Informed Decision-Making
- Knowing the car’s history helps you make an informed decision. If the vehicle has a history of serious accidents or frequent repairs, you might decide to look for another option.
- Safety and Reliability
- A comprehensive history report can alert you to potential safety issues. For example, if the car has been in a severe accident, there could be hidden damage that affects its reliability and safety.
- Value Assessment
- Understanding a car’s history helps you assess its fair market value. If the vehicle has a salvage title or a history of significant damage, its resale value may be lower than that of a similar vehicle with a clean history.
- Negotiation Power
- Armed with detailed information from the history report, you can negotiate more effectively. If you uncover any issues or concerns, you can use this information to potentially lower the price or request repairs.
- Peace of Mind
- Finally, a vehicle history report offers peace of mind. Knowing that you’ve done your due diligence can make your car-buying experience much less stressful.

Introducing The Tesla Supercharger Network
As part of our commitment to driving the future forward, GM is in the process of integrating the North American Charging Standard (NACS) and is introducing NACS DC Adapters for GM EVs with a CCS inlet. This will give GM EV customers access to 17,800+ Tesla Superchargers, making it easier than ever for EV drivers to put their charging worries aside.
A NACS DC Adapter allows for an EV with a CCS inlet to plug into any NACS DC fast charger, including the Tesla Supercharger Network. All current GM EV owners have a CCS inlet, requiring a GM-approved NACS DC Adapter to charge on the Tesla Supercharger Network.
Customers can purchase the NACS DC Adapter, locate Tesla Superchargers and pay for charging, all in the Vehicle Mobile App. *The integrated mobile experience has everything customers need to charge.
Charge Anywhere
Benefits of Charging with the Vehicle Mobile App:
- Access to over 214,000 chargers and over 17,800 Tesla Superchargers across the U.S. and Canada
- Integrated mobile experience helps make charging simple and convenient
- The Tesla Supercharger Network is just the first of several charging networks being added for seamless payment in the app
- EV drivers can view other charging station operator networks, plan their route, monitor charge status, and more in the Vehicle Mobile App*
- Customers can easily order a NACS DC Adapter within the app
How to Unlock Easy, On-the-Go Access
What Customers Need to Access the Tesla Supercharger Network:
- The NACS DC Adapter to connect to the NACS charger
- Vehicle Mobile App* to manage charging
How to Set up the Vehicle Mobile App and Order a NACS DC Adapter
The customer can order the NACS DC Adapter by going to the Public Charging page in the Vehicle Mobile App. *Simply select “Activate” for the Tesla Supercharger, and then follow the prompts to enable Tesla Supercharger access. Tesla Supercharger access allows customers to only pay for the energy they use with no additional commitment.
Once they add a payment method, they’ll have the opportunity to order a NACS DC Adapter for $225, via the accessories e-commerce experience, and select their preferred dealer to order. Customers can conveniently ship their NACS DC Adapter directly to their home or choose to pick up from their preferred dealer location. Customers can also use or earn My GM Rewards points with the purchase of a NACS DC Adapter.
NACS DC Adapters will only be sold through the Vehicle Mobile App* at launch.
GM strongly advises that customers use a GM NACS DC Adapter for charging on any NACS public charger, including the Tesla Supercharger Network, which have been specifically designed to protect GM EV batteries while charging. Damage to vehicle components resulting from the installation or use of non-GM approved parts is not covered under the terms of the vehicle warranty and may affect remaining warranty coverage for affected parts.

We’ve done that for years, and this integration with the Tesla Supercharger Network aligns perfectly with our philosophy at GM.
What are the benefits of the Vehicle Mobile App?*
GM recommends the Vehicle Mobile App* for convenient integration with your GM vehicle. Customers can locate compatible charging stations, initiate or end a charging session via the Vehicle Mobile App,* and pay for their session, all in one easy-to-use app.
Why must a payment method be saved to order a NACS DC Adapter?
The Tesla Supercharger Network requires a mobile app to access and initiate a charging session because there are no payment functions on the charger. Fall Road Hazards
How to Prepare Your Car for Fall Road Hazards: Tips and Tricks
From unpredictable weather to increased debris on the road, fall can present a variety of hazards for drivers. To ensure you stay safe and your vehicle runs smoothly, follow these essential tips and tricks for preparing your car for the fall season. And if you need expert assistance, Boyd’s OBX Chevrolet is here to help!
Check Your Tires
As the temperatures drop, your tire pressure can decrease, leading to reduced traction. Start by checking your tire pressure and ensuring it meets the manufacturer’s recommendations. Additionally, inspect your tire tread depth; the penny test is a quick way to check. Place a penny into the tread with Lincoln’s head facing down. If you can see the top of his head, it’s time for new tires. Adequate tread depth is crucial for handling wet and slippery fall roads.
Inspect the Battery
Fall’s cooler temperatures can impact your car battery’s performance. To avoid getting stranded, have your battery tested to ensure it’s in good condition. Check for any signs of corrosion on the terminals and clean them if necessary. A healthy battery will provide the reliability you need during the unpredictable fall weather. You can bring your vehicle to Boyd’s OBX Chevrolet for a comprehensive battery check and maintenance.
Top Off Fluids
Ensure all your vehicle’s fluids are at appropriate levels. This includes:
- Antifreeze/Coolant: Check the coolant level and make sure the antifreeze mixture is suitable for the cooler temperatures.
- Wiper Fluid: Refill your windshield washer fluid with a winter formula that prevents freezing.
- Oil: Verify that your oil level is correct and consider an oil change if it’s due.
Check the Brakes
With fall’s potentially slick roads, effective braking is more important than ever. Inspect your brake pads and rotors for wear and tear. If you notice any issues, have them addressed before you find yourself needing to stop suddenly in adverse conditions. For a comprehensive brake inspection, visit Boyd’s OBX Chevrolet and ensure your brakes are in top shape.
Inspect the Wipers
Fall weather can bring rain and even early frost, so it’s vital that your windshield wipers are in good condition. Check for any signs of wear and replace the wiper blades if they’re streaking or not clearing the windshield effectively. A functional windshield washer system will help maintain visibility in rainy conditions.
Examine Lights and Signals
Shorter days mean less daylight, making it crucial that all your vehicle’s lights are functioning correctly. Check your headlights, taillights, and turn signals to ensure they’re working properly. Replace any burnt-out bulbs promptly. If your car has fog lights, make sure they’re operational as they can be particularly useful in foggy or rainy conditions.
Check the HVAC System
Your car’s heating system will become your best friend as temperatures drop. Make sure your heater is working effectively to keep you warm and ensure the defroster clears your windshield properly. Also, check that your air conditioning is functioning well, as it can help with defogging the windows on chilly mornings.
By taking these proactive steps, you can help ensure your vehicle is ready to handle the challenges of fall driving. From maintaining proper tire pressure to ensuring your lights and brakes are in top condition, these preparations will enhance your safety and driving experience as the seasons change. If you need any assistance with these fall preparations, Boyd’s OBX Chevrolet is here to help. Visit us today for expert service and get your car ready for the road. Safe travels!

Leasing a car can be a smart choice for many, offering the opportunity to drive a new vehicle without the long-term commitment of ownership. At Boyd’s OBX Chevrolet, our experts specialize in guiding you through the entire leasing process and are adept at explaining the numerous benefits of vehicle leasing.
What is a Car Lease?
A car lease is essentially a rental agreement where you pay for the use of a vehicle over a specified period, typically two to three years. At the end of the lease, you can either return the car or purchase it outright.
Key Terms and Concepts
- Monthly Payments: This is the amount you pay each month to use the car. It’s calculated based on the vehicle’s depreciation (how much its value decreases over the lease term), plus interest and fees.
- Lease Term: Duration of the lease, usually in months.
- Mileage Allowance: Limit on miles driven per year, with fees for exceeding the limit.
- Residual Value: Estimated value of the car at lease end.
- Disposition Fee: Some leases include a fee you pay at the end of the lease term to cover the cost of cleaning and selling the car.
Understanding the Fine Print
Before signing, our team will ensure you are well-informed about:
- Maintenance Responsibilities: Typically, you’re responsible for maintaining the leased vehicle as per the manufacturer’s recommendations. Failure to do so could result in fees at the end of the lease.
- Excess Wear and Tear: While some wear is expected, excessive wear and tear can lead to additional charges at the end of the lease term. Be clear on what constitutes acceptable wear and tear.
- Early Termination Fees: If you need to end the lease early, you might face charges. Understand these costs upfront to avoid surprises.
- Insurance Requirements: Most leases require you to carry higher levels of insurance coverage compared to owning a car outright. Make sure you understand these requirements before signing.
Whether you’re new to leasing or considering another lease, our team of experts are here to empower you with knowledge and assistance tailored to your specific needs. We prioritize transparency and customer satisfaction, ensuring you make informed decisions that align with your budget and lifestyle.

Buying a used car can be an excellent way to get a reliable vehicle at a more affordable price than buying new. However, it’s essential to approach the process with careful consideration to ensure you make a smart investment. At Boyd’s OBX Chevrolet, we understand the importance of this decision and are here to guide you every step of the way with our expertise in the used car market.
Set Your Budget
Before you start looking at cars, determine your budget. Consider not just the purchase price but also ongoing costs such as insurance, maintenance, and fuel. Setting a clear budget will help narrow down your options and prevent overspending.
Research
Research is key to finding a reliable used car. Consider factors such as:
- Make and Model: Research different makes and models known for reliability and durability. Websites like Consumer Reports and Edmunds provide valuable information and reviews from owners.
- Vehicle History: Obtain a vehicle history report using the car’s vehicle identification number (VIN). This report can reveal important details such as past accidents, ownership history, and maintenance records. Boyd’s OBX Chevrolet offers complimentary CARFAX vehicle history reports with every pre-owned vehicle we sell.
- Market Value: Research the market value of the specific car model you’re interested in to ensure you’re paying a fair price. Websites like Kelley Blue Book and NADA Guides provide estimates based on the car’s condition, mileage, and location.
Inspect the Car
At Boyd’s OBX Chevrolet, each vehicle undergoes an extensive 182-Point Multi-Point Inspection to guarantee it meets our high standards for quality and reliability. Here’s what to look for during your inspection:
- Exterior: Check for signs of rust, dents, or scratches. Ensure that all lights and indicators are working correctly.
- Interior: Inspect the condition of seats, dashboard, and controls. Test the air conditioning, heating, and infotainment systems.
- Under the Hood: Look for any leaks, corrosion, or worn-out belts and hoses. Check the oil level and condition.
- Test Drive: Take the car for a test drive on various road types to assess its handling, braking, and overall performance.
Purchase
Before finalizing the purchase, review all paperwork carefully. Ensure that all necessary documents, such as the title, bill of sale, and warranty (if applicable), are in order. Verify that there are no outstanding liens on the vehicle.
Post-Purchase Considerations
Insurance: Arrange for insurance coverage before driving the car off the lot.
Maintenance: Establish a maintenance schedule based on the manufacturer’s recommendations to keep the car running smoothly. At Boyd’s OBX Chevrolet our pre-owned vehicles include a 2-year Car Doc package with six oil changes and tire rotations, ensuring your vehicle remains in optimal condition.
Registration: Transfer the registration to your name and obtain new license plates if necessary.
Warranty: Boyd’s OBX Chevrolet offers complimentary 90-day warranty.

Hybrid vs. Electric: Which is Right for You?
Hybrid and electric vehicles have become popular choices for drivers who prioritize sustainability and fuel economy. Each option has unique benefits, but deciding between them can be complex. Let’s explore their differences to help you find the perfect fit for your lifestyle.
Hybrid Vehicles: The Best of Both Worlds
Hybrid cars combine a traditional gasoline engine with an electric motor and battery. This dual powertrain setup allows hybrids to achieve better fuel efficiency and lower emissions compared to conventional vehicles. Here’s why a hybrid might be right for you:
- Increased Range: You never have to worry about finding a charging station since hybrids can refuel at any gas station.
- Lower Fuel Costs: Hybrid vehicles typically offer better fuel economy, saving you money on gas overtime.
- Reduced Emissions: They produce fewer emissions than traditional vehicles, making them a greener choice.
Electric Vehicles (EVs): Zero Emissions, Maximum Efficiency
Electric vehicles run entirely on electric motors powered by rechargeable batteries. They are known for zero tailpipe emissions and quiet, smooth driving experiences. Here’s why an EV might be your ideal choice:
- Environmental Impact: EVs produce zero emissions, contributing to cleaner air and reducing your carbon footprint.
- Lower Operating Costs: Electricity is often cheaper than gasoline, and EVs have fewer moving parts, reducing maintenance costs over time.
- Government Incentives: Many governments offer incentives such as tax credits or rebates to encourage EV adoption.
How to Decide Which is Right for You
Consider Your Driving Habits: If you have a long daily commute or frequently travel long distances, a hybrid’s range and refueling convenience might be advantageous. For shorter commutes and city driving, an EV could be ideal.
Charging Infrastructure: Evaluate the availability of charging stations in your area and whether you have access to charging at home or work.
Budget: Compare the upfront costs, fuel savings, and potential incentives to determine the total cost of ownership over time.
At Boyd’s OBX Chevrolet we’re here to help you make the right choice for your lifestyle and budget. Whether you’re interested in exploring the versatility of a hybrid or the eco-friendly benefits of an electric vehicle, our knowledgeable team is ready to assist you every step of the way.
